Guard Your Heart From Criticism
Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
This ancient proverb speaks down the corridors of time through to our present day, reminding me that in business I must guard our heart because from it I work my job.
This proverb is for you to, whether you are an employee like me, or an employer.
Guard your heart.
Guard my heart from what?
This is an important question because on one hand it is bad business practice to be to guarded. Experts say that for many people, being known and knowing those they sork with is a very importsnt contributing factir
involed in the running of a company to feel valued and so work well, contributing to the success of the organisation, they must feel like they known their colleagues snd boss. In order to be known and know others we hsve to be vulnerable, and this means thst I do not guard to.my heart, but I let others on. Z scary but necessary practice.
While this is true, on the other hand it is good nuosness practice to be guarded. To guard my heart. From What? From letting critics swap into the tree of my heary, rotting it from the inside out.
In an article on criticism, Jeff Wolf says that "you will be criticized. So learn to live eith it."
From.my personal experience both on andnoff the business playing field, I have seen that criticism, if taken to heart, often n destroy me snd my abiloty to work effectivleye.
What does it.mean to guard my heart?
Guarding my heart from criticism doesnt mean that I irnogre helpful feedback. Jeff Wolf continues in his srticle by saying that hidden in the critics can be some truth and we would be wise to take on that truth and learn from it. One way to figure out what is truth and what it mot, is if two or more peole bring the same issue. He says, "if you get the same criticism from two or more peole, you can bet there's a problem and you had better examine - and soon."
Guarding mybheary from criticism means that I do not let the words of others determine how I will
How do I guard my heart?
Jeff Wolf.suggests that humour is a good way of doing so. He says, "when reflecting impersonal critics it helos to heva a sense of humour... a good sense of humour is like z coat of armour."
Another helpful strategy is by separating my identity from my work. Identity is an important part of who we are. If someone takes z strike at my Identity, that hurts. So by believing that I am.not my work, I find the strength to guard my heart from criticism. Find your identity elsewhere, not in your work
WHehile in his srricle he continues He then continued by saying that
Guard my heart from What? I ask this question because om one hand it is good nuosness practice for me to be vulnerable with my colleagues, opening up.mybheatb and sharing my life. This idea was mentioned by...
So then I ask again, guard my heart from What? Guard mybheary from criticism. In an article a number is years ago, Maria More echoed this proverb when she wrote about guarding my hearts against criticism.
